Joseph Turow’s The Daily You takes us behind-the-scenes of the advertising industry to get a better sense of not just how its capitalistic rationale is put into practice, but its potential impact on individuals in a consumer society. While readers are probably most familiar with his Breaking Up America (1997), this current book is a more natural development of its 2006 antecedent, Niche Envy. Indeed The Daily You contains familiar arguments Turow has made previously about marketing discrimination and profiling in a digital age, but this book delves further into the actual mechanics and end-goals of how advertising companies gather data, profile people, and try to follow ‘valuable’ individuals across as many possible geographic locations and devices as possible.

Halid el-Ezherî’nin (ö. 905/1499) Muvassılu’n-Nebîl ilâ Nahvi’t-Teshîl adlı eseri temel biyografi kaynaklarında zikredilmeyen bir eserdir. İbn Mâlik’in Teshîlu’l-Fevâid ve Tekmîlu’l-Mekâsıd adlı eserinin bir şerhidir.
İbn Mâlik (ö. 672) Arap dili gramerinin Sîbeveyhi’den (ö. 180) sonraki en meşhur ismidir. Eseri bu alanın en temel kaynaklarındandır. Eserini kendisi de şerh etmiş ve Elfiyye’sinde şiir olarak özetlemiştir.
Halid el-Ezherî, Mısır’ın en parlak dönemlerini yaşadığı bir zamanda, geç denebilecek bir yaşta ilim hayatına başlamış ve alanın temel kaynaklarından olan İbn Mâlik’in (ö. 672) eserini Muvassılu’n-Nebîl ilâ Nahvi’t-Teshîl adıyla şerh etmiştir. Bu çalışma esnasında yapılan araştırmaya göre bu eser Türkiye yazmalarında mevcut değildir. Temel tabakât kitaplarında da ismi zikredilmeyen eserin, el-Ezherî’ye ait olduğu yazma nüshada açıkça zikredilmiş, diğer eserlerinde de nüshaya atıf yapılmıştır.

Ward-Perkins’s book The Fall of Rome and the End of Civilization is a book that looks at, rewriting the history books. His main focus is the transitioning period between the rule of Rome and the rule of the Germanic tribes and their culture. The rule of Rome has fallen and fallen hard in the west, but just Rome’s rule, not their culture: that has assimilated into the Germanic tribes creating late Antiquity.

Հայ իրականության մեջ առաջին դեպքը չէ, երբ Հայոց ցեղասպանության տարելիցների կապակցությամբ հրապարակումներ են լինում, որոնք փորձում են նորովի ներկայացնել Ցեղասպանության թեման և ուսումնասիրության նոր մեթոդներ են առաջ քաշում, սակայն այս հարցում միշտ էլ կա նոր ասելիքի կամ ասելիքի նորոգման կարիք: 2015թ. վերջին լույս տեսավ Հայկազեան հայագիտական հանդեսի 35-րդ հատորը, որը կրում է «Հարիւրամեակէն անդի՛ն, եւ` ի՛նչ» խորագիրը: Թերևս այդ «Ի´նչ»-ն էլ հենց խորհրդանշում է ողջ հատորի բովանդակությունը։

Նոյեմբերի 5-ին Գիտությունների ազգային ակադեմիայում տեղի ունեցավ Հայկազյան հայագիտական հանդեսի 35-րդ հատորի շնորհանդեսը․ ներկա հյուրերը՝ ՀՀ սփյուռքի նախարարը, ՀՀ ԳԱԱ փոխնախագահը, այլ ելույթ ունեցողներ, կարևորելով հանդերձ հանդեսի դերը հայ իրականության և սփյուռք-հայրենիք կապի մեջ, խոսելով Հայկազյան Համալսարանի գործունեության մասին, այնուամենայնիվ, չանդրադարձան շնորհանդեսի բուն առիթին՝ հանդեսի վերջին հատորին։ Նշենք, որ 35-րդ հատորի շնորհանդեսը փաստում է դրան նախորդած հատորների ձևավորման փորձառության կուտակման մասին:

Հայկազյան Հայագիտական հանդեսի 35-րդ հատորի առաջին երկու հոդվածը (Աշոտ Ոսկանյան, «Աղետի պահապանը»․ Ռոբեր Քոփթաշ, «Հայ քաղաքական միտքը երիտթուրքական հեղափոխությունից առաջ և հետո») ծածուկ կաղապարներով փորձում են ընթերցողին հասցնել այն միտքը, որ Մեծ եղեռնի իրագործման մեղքը հաճախ այս ու այն կողմ որոնելու փոխարեն պետք է մեր բաժին սխալը փորձենք ուղղել՝ ի սկզբանե ընդունելով այն: Երրորդ հոդվածը (Եղիկ Ջերեջյան, «Համբարձում Բոյաջյանի (Մեծն Մուրադ) խորհրդարանական գործունեությունը (1908-1912թթ․)») ներկայացնում է հայկական ներկայությունը թուրքական խորհրդարանում Առաջին աշխարհամարտի տարիներին։ Այն նաև, թեկուզ անուղղակիորեն, այնուամենայնիվ տեսանելի է դարձնում առաջին երկու հոդվածների կաղապարի արդարացիությունը, այն է՝ Օսմանյան խորհրդարանում որոշակի տեղ ու կշիռ ունեցող հայ մտավորականների աչքի առջև էր սկսվում հայերի կոտորածը:

Prof. Hamid Dabashi’s book, focusing on the dynamics of change and transition within the Shi’ite historical context, presents a panoramic perspective discussing conflict, uprising and conciliation periods of this significant sect within the history of Islam. Using Freudian psychoanalysis theory, Dabashi evaluates Shi’ite positioning against the regime and authority along with its protest discourse as a result of martyrdom at Karbala of Hossein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.

While discussing this process, the author not only analyzes the significance and fight of the historical figures but also modern ideologues and artists. At the end of his analysis on the 1979 Revolution, Dabashi summarizes entire historical process as; “It thrives and is triumphant when it is combative and wages an uphill battle; it loses
its moral authority and defiant voice the instant it succeeds and is in power. It is, paradoxically, only in power when it is not in power—when it in power, it lacks legitimacy, authority, audacity.”

"The Politics of Public Management" is a strong case study that is still as relevant today as it was in 2003 when it was published. I would recommend that students and practitioners of public administration/management, and budding politicians, read the entire book. As well, students and practitioners of journalism, accounting, auditing, as well as private-sector partners with government should read the Introduction, Chapters One and Two and then their respective chapters (detailed Contents page) a read, at a minimum.
