From the VI to the VIII century most of Rome’s ancient monuments got into such a state of degradation and abandonment that even the memory of their original name and function had been completely lost. On studying the mistakes in location of the Temple of Peace, it appeared evident that the misunderstandings, other than the Basilica, were tightly linked with the misconceptions relating to the adjacent Temple of Romulus, as well as  the nearby Temple of Venus and Rome. Thus these monuments must be considered as a whole, in order to reconstruct their identification history.

The persistence growth of Egypt's public domestic debt has raised concerns regarding its impact on economic growth and fears are being express about the debt sustainability. Utilizing data for the period 1981-2006, the results obtained from cointegration model reveal that the public domestic debt in Egypt has a robust negative impact on growth. The sustainability of debt was examined used some algebra methods. The results suggested that the recent path of debt followed in Egypt was sustainable. For debt to remain sustained in future, substantial fiscal reforms are needed and policies should be adopting to maintain an increasing growth-interest rate differential.

Setiap orang dalam pergaulan di dalam masyarakat harus memperhatikan dan melaksanakan (menaati) peraturan hukum, agar tercipta kehidupan yang tertib dan tentram. Kalau terjadi pelanggaran hukum terhadap peraturan hukum yang berlaku maka peraturan yang dilanggar harus ditegakkan, 1 penyelenggaraan rule of low (penegakan hukum) dalam suatu negara sangat sulit memisahkannya dengan segi politik negara. Keadaan politik itulah yang memberikan corak dan bentuk pelaksanaan penegakan hukum. 2

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was unanimously adopted and proclaimed by the United Nations through the General Assembly Resolution 217A(111) on the 10th of December, 1948. Since its declaration, it has become fashionable for most countries of the world (Nigeria inclusive) to entrench the catalogue of rights in their national constitutions. Regrettably, in Nigeria and indeed in Africa, people are usually subjected to physical and mental torture. The case of accidental discharges, domestic violence, detentions without trial, kidnappings, and police brutality are common occurrences. In short, the Nigerian experience has shown the level at which peoples’ integrity and dignity are not respected and protected in the society. It is against this backdrop that this paper examines the challenges of human rights abuses in Nigeria. It also explores some conceptual clarifications and further examines various threats to human rights in Nigerian society. The paper concludes by recommending among others, the strengthening of independence of the judiciary, press freedom, democratic rules/principles, human rights education and public vigilance to curtail human rights abuses and promote good governance in Nigeria.

Kualitas dan relevansi pendidikan masih merupakan permasalahan di Indonesia. Keduanya berkaitan dengan globalisasi dan otonomi yang menuntut persiapan sumber daya manusia yang kompeten agar mampu bersaing dan otonomi daerah menuntut perubahan dan penyesuaia sistem pendidikan sehingga dapat mewujudkan proses pendidikan yang demokratis. Untuk menghadapi tantangan dan mengatasi masalah tersebut pemerintah telah melakukan berbagai upaya antara lain menyediakan berbagai sarana belajar. Pusat sumber belajar (PSB) adalah suatu perkembangan baru dari perpustakaan. PSB lebih lengkap dibandingkan dengan perpustakaan sebab tidak hanya terdiri dari kumpulan buku atau media cetak lainnya, tetapi mempunyai koleksi khusus sesuai dengan perguruan tinggi atau sekolah yang ditunjangnya plus media non cetak misalnya model, kumpulan benda yang sebenarnya, overhead transparency, foto, slide,filmstrip, video, komputer dan lain-lain. Selain menyediakan sumber-sumber belajar juga memberikan konsultasi pengembangan bahan pengajaran dan persentase dengan menggunakan media, memberikan pengajaran untuk latihan dan memproduksi media. Beda lainnya dengan perpustakaan adalah PSB diprogram terpadu dengan KBM diperguruan tinggi atau sekolah tempat dia berada. Kadang-kadang suatu PSB berfungsi sebagai laboratorium, studio atau workshop baik untuk dosen maupun mahasiswa. Departemen pendidikan dan kebudayaan Republik Indonesia telah mengembangkan PSB ini, baik untuk perguruan tinggi maupun sekolah menengah. Bahkan dengan bantuan Bank dunia, sekarang diperguruan tinggi negeri seluruh Indonesia sedang dirintis Inter University Center, suatu pusat informasi yang lebih menitik beratkan pada pengembangan instruksional.

The literature of the Chakmas is as rich and diverse as other literatures of the world. The Chakmas are the largest of all other tribal communities in Bangladesh. As a major community, they possess distinguished culture, festival, tradition and literature.  This ancient ethnic group has been prolific in producing almost all genres of literature like poetry, epic folktales, myths, play, songs, hymns, puzzles etc. throughout the history. Unfortunately, they have always been pushed aside by the community in power.

Resumo O presente artigo é resultado de um trabalho de campo, feito, junto dos operadores turístico-hoteleiros da Ilha de Moçambique, comunidade local e gestores governamentais ligados ao Turismo, pretende-se com este, analisar e sugerir acções que possam contribuir para o melhoramento da actividade turística na Ilha de Moçambique, dando ênfase ao papel dos actores sociais envolvidos na cadeia turística e o delineamento de estratégias de galvanização dessa actividade; o modelo proposto apresenta uma visão macrossociológica sobre o turismo, governança e desenvolvimento local e para a concretização dos objectivos, recorreu-se a entrevistas a 22 pessoas, dentre as quais, 10 da comunidade local, 8 (oito) operadores turísticos, 1 (um) representante do Conselho Municipal do Distrito/ da Cidade da Ilha de Moçambique e 1 (um) representante da Associação dos Pequenos Empresários de Turismo 2 (dois) membros da APETUR, para perceber na óptica desses actores sociais, quais os factores retrocedem a actividade turística e formas de dinamização, outrossim, usou-se o metodo explicativo, auxiliado a pesquisa bibliogràfica pois foram investigados os factores que retardam o desenvolvimento da Indústria Hoteleira na Ilha de Moçambique. Espera-se que os resultados deste estudo possam trazer uma mais-valia na Planificação de Políticas a nível do turismo, bem como às empresas e instituições públicas e privadas no gerenciamento, competitividade da indústria hoteleira em Moçambique e na Ilha de Moçambique em particular. As quickly as they came, the cyclonic invaders dissipate, leaving behind a short document, organized and written according to archaic academic mores – a relic of the old order – that traces the once prevalent lineage of State philosophy while laying down a prescription for a future that is now.

This research was funded by, and implemented within, a UK national research organisation, while the author was the KE and Impact Evaluation Manager responsible for assessing impact on a £15m UK government-funded research programme.

This work was also submitted as the authors MBA dissertation which was accepted and awarded in 2009.

ABSTRACT: A methodology and methods ‘toolbox’ is proposed for conducting impact research and assessment from within research programmes. The emphasis is upon how to clarify and assess the wider impacts from the early stages onwards.

The approach explicitly acknowledges, and attempts to address, the known issues and challenges of impact assessment while drawing upon the resources and opportunities available to research managers and researchers within such programmes.

The study has two triangulating foundations. Firstly, it examines the academic literature to help identify and design the pilot methodology and methods. Secondly it trials these in a real programme to both test and improve them.

The study was conducted over one year within one leading UK research organisation, where two research programmes (and around 60 research projects of £15m total value) were being assessed for their impacts. The study draws upon actual impact management experience and reflection, prospective (ex ante) and retrospective (ex post) assessments, participatory contributions from leading researchers undergoing assessment, and consultation with external users. The findings of this study outline the pilot and its first iteration. Recommendations are made for improvement to the methodology and methods.

A subsequent follow-on bid to UK government incorporating the impacts identified from implementing this methodology, successfully led to a further £15m of government funding.

It is expected the pilot methodology and methods will be applicable to other organisations, conducting and funding such research programmes, required to research and assess the wider research impacts.

Although primary focus of implemetation trials was upon research in physical sciences, technology, high-tech engineering, computing/IT, and environment, the wider literature study, the methodology design and justification, the methods proposed and used, and the resulting general recommendations and lessons are expected to apply more broadly to many other research areas, where the impact is to be found more widely in the society, economy, government or public sector or within organizations, policies, professions or the public.

Interest in this work is expected from research programme managers, impact managers and assessors, management consultants advising in this area, and government funding managers, all seeking to embed a developing approach to understand, capture, and enhance wider impact.

Pendidikan merupakan faktor penting dalam mendukung berkembangnya suatu bangsa. Proses belajar mengajar yang masih konvensional dirasa kurang menarik minat peserta didik dan penyampaian materi akan membutuhkan waktu yang lama, sehingga membuat siswa menjadi jenuh. Prestasi belajar siswa di sekolah sering diindikasikan dengan permasalahan belajar dari siswa tersebut dalam memahami materi secara teori maupun praktek. Indikasi ini dimungkinkan karena siswa sendiri tidak merasa termotivasi dalam mengikuti pembelajaran di kelas sehingga menyebabkan siswa kurang atau bahkan tidak memahami materi yang bersifat sulit yang diberikan oleh guru tersebut. Kecenderungan pembelajaran yang kurang menarik ini merupakan hal wajar yang dialami oleh guru dan dalam hal ini peran seorang guru sebagai pengembang ilmu sangat besar untuk memilih dan melaksanakan pembelajaran yang tepat dan efisien bagi peserta didik bukan hanya pembelajaran berbasis konvensional.

Industri pelet kayu di Kabupaten Wonosobo adalah Industri Penanaman Modal Asing dari Korea untuk tujuan ekspor. Bahan baku dari kayu pelet seperti serbuk gergaji memiliki potensi suplai di Kabupaten Wonosobo. Di sisi lain, serbuk gergaji adalah bahan bakar utama untuk industri makanan dan minuman seperti tahu dan tempe. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi pengembangan industri pelet kayu dengan bahan baku limbah kayu. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kabupaten Wonosobo, Jawa Tengah. Metode deskriptif kualitatif dilakukan untuk mengetahui fenomena industri kayu menggunakan kerangka pendekatan yang komprehensif dengan menganalisis setiap sub sistem industri kayu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perkembangan industri pelet kayu memiliki peluang potensi yang tinggi. Potensi limbah kayu gergajian sebagai bahan bakar biomassa terbarukan yang cukup untuk memasok bahan baku pelet kayu. Permintaan pelet kayu industri tahu dan tempe dalam satu tahun sebesar 40. 422 ton. Limbah serbuk gergajian yang dapat dihasilkan oleh industri pengolahan kayu yang ada saat ini sebesar 151.524 m dapat menghasilkan pelet kayu sebesar 7.576 ton/tahun. Kekurangan bahan baku serbuk gergaji dapat ditutupi melalui investasi penanaman terutama jenis albasia, oleh karena itu terdapat peluang untuk pengembangan industri pelet kayu. Disamping itu perluasan penanaman pohon pada hutan rakyat merupakan potensi untuk penyediaan bahan baku pelet. Luas kawasan hutan yang dibutuhkan untuk penanaman pohon adalah 1.247,3 ha. Studi menunjukkan bahwa pelet kayu perlu disosialisasikan sebagai bahan bakar biomass terbarukan. Dalam hal ini, para pemangku kepentingan terkait diharapkan menyebarluaskan promosi produk biomasaa terbarukan. Raw material of wood pellet such as sawdust potentially exist in large amount supply in Wonosobo regency. Sawdust currently is used for primary fuel for food and beverages industry such as tofu and tempe. This study aims to determine the potential of the development of wood pellet industry with raw material from wood waste. The study was conducted in Wonosobo regency, Central Java province. Method of qualitative descriptive was used to study the phenomenon timber industry using a comprehensive approach framework by analyzing subsystem of the industry. The results showed that wood pellet industry is potential to be developed. Wood industry waste is potentially sufficient to supply the raw material demand of wood pellets industry. Wood pellets demand of tofu and tempe industry currently amounted to 40, 422 tonnes annuallis. Mean while the existing wood pellet can be fulfilled by 7,576 tons/year. If the sawdust developed to be wood pellets, the wood pellet industry development still potential through investment of albasia planting. Development of the area cultivated with tree of private forestry is a potential for the supply of wood pellets raw material. Forest area required for tree planting is 1.247.3 ha. The study showed that wood pellets need to be socialiced as a renewable biomass fuel. The related stakeholders were expected to disseminate the products of renewable biomass.

Within the current higher education context, early career researchers (ECRs) face a 'risk-career' in which predictable, stable academic careers have become increasingly rare. Traditional milestones to signal progress toward a sustainable research career are disappearing or subject to reinterpretation, and ECRs need to attend to new or reimagined signals in their efforts to develop a researcher identity in this current context. In this article, we present a comprehensive framework for researcher identity in relation to the ways ECRs recognise and respond to divergent signals across spheres of activity. We illustrate this framework through eight identity stories drawn from our earlier research projects. Each identity story highlights the congruence (or lack of congruence) between signals across spheres of activity and emphasises the different ways ECRs respond to these signals.
